L’enfance et la jeunesse
Né le 22 juin 1950 à Charleroi, mon père (que j’appellerai Jean-François) était le fils de Franz Houins, originaire d’Achêne (Province de Namur) et de Marie-Thérèse Leblanc, originaire d’Hainin (Province du Hainaut). Jean-François passe sa prime enfance dans le village de Corbion (rue du Tambour) où ses parents s’installent après leur mariage en 1945. Le long de la maison descend la rue du Bojaban tout en bas de laquelle se trouve la maison des couleuvres où, suite à son agression par arme à feu sur Arthur Rimbaud, s’était réfugié Paul Verlaine 70 plus tôt, sous la protection de son ami d’enfance, l’abbé Dewez.
Born on June 22, 1950 in Charleroi, my father (whom I will call Jean-François) was the son of Franz Houins, originally from Achêne (Province of Namur) and Marie-Thérèse Leblanc, originally from Hainin (Province of Hainaut). Jean-François spent his early childhood in the village of Corbion (rue du Tambour) where his parents settled after their marriage in 1945. Along the house goes down the rue du Bojaban, at the very bottom of which is the house of the snakes where, following his gun attack on Arthur Rimbaud, Paul Verlaine had taken refuge 70 years earlier, under the protection of his childhood friend, Father Dewez.

La maison de Corbion
Le couple a quatre enfants : Yves né en 1946, Bernard, né en 1948, Jean-François, mon père, né en 1950 et Jacques, mon parrain, né en 1953.
The couple had four children: Yves, born in 1946, Bernard, born in 1948, Jean-François, my father, born in 1950 and Jacques, my godfather, born in 1953.
Juste après la guerre, son père, Franz, ingénieur (Garde général) à l’administration des Eaux et Forêts, est affecté pour le canton de Bouillon. En 1955, Franz, Marie-Thérèse et leurs enfants déménagent au centre de Bouillon (rue de la Poste, n°1).
Just after the war, his father, Franz, an engineer (General Guard) in the Water and Forestry Administration, was assigned to the canton of Bouillon. In 1955, Franz, Marie-Thérèse and their children moved to the centre of Bouillon (rue de la Poste, no. 1).
Jean-François et Jacques, cadets de la fratrie, seront fort liés bien que dotés de tempéraments très différents.
Jean-François and Jacques, sibling cadets, will be closely related although they have very different temperaments.

Jean-François suit l’enseignement primaire à l’institut Sainte Marie à Bouillon et à l’Athénée royal de Bouillon.
Jean-François follows primary education at the Sainte Marie Institute in Bouillon and at the Athénée Royal in Bouillon.
Son enseignement secondaire aura lieu à l’Institut d’enseignement technique de Charleroi et à l’Ecole technique de Bertrix.
His secondary education will take place at the Institut d’enseignement technique de Charleroi and the Ecole technique de Bertrix.
De sa scolarité, Jean-François disait qu’il regrettait de ne pas avoir fait la différence entre technique et science. Il sera électricien de formation.
From his schooling, Jean-François said he regretted not having made the difference between technique and science. He will be an electrician by training.
